Una cabeza por encima del agua
2016
Artist’s book composed with images of found photographs from our own collection, under category of “heads above water”. The trigger for this project is a quote from Elias Canetti who articulates the whole book (“A head above water gave him back the strength to pick up the thread of the story”), and that, in dialogue with the idea of collection (of images), leads the book to develop according to variations of a repeating system.
It contains 8 images, each of which is preceded by the first part of the Canetti quotation (A head above water), appealing to their descriptive character of the typology of the images. Each sentence is printed with mobile types from different families, intuitively in line with their corresponding images (in font size, in the extension of the whole sentence on the paper, etc.). Finally, the last two pages present consecutively the first and second part of the quote, revealing only the full text at the end. This book exists in an edition of 36 copies, with 8 different covers, so that some copies have on the cover a fragment of image 1, others of image 2, etc., of the next form:
1/36: image 1
2/36 + 3/36: picture 2
