La Hystera errante
“Faced with the pathologisation of the organ and the fact that she will most likely have to give up control over her narrative to the medical world, Laia recovers, reshapes and reclaims a Hellenic practice that fed into subsequent gynopia: the theatrics of the wandering womb. This myth, (which had consequences for women’s bodies), claims that the womb is an animal within another animal, an autonomous creature to be tamed, one that causes ailments when it wanders aimlessly through the female body. La Hystera errante [Wandering Hystera] arises from the liberatory potential of the idea that the womb is independent. “
Marta Nieto Postigo in the exhibition text La Gynopia y el espasmo.
