Anam Cara
2023

The discontinuous ceramic columns are made from coils of clay, added on top of each other concentrically, as if following the path of a symbolic labyrinth with each work. Anam is the Gaelic word for “soul” and Cara for “friend”. Friend of the soul would be the title for this diptych of columns representing interdependence: the bonds that support a common roof and the importance of being in the company that offers support. In more detail, they are formed by a series of undulating horizons close to the soft memory of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, which surround the Dominican Republic, the artist’s country of origin.
