Subtitles for Reality Installation

The gallery Chiquita Room and the bookstores Terranova in Barcelona and Saint-Martin in Brussels host a triangular collaboration with the artist Antonio Menchen, scheduled for the rentrée. From September 6th to 7th, Chiquita Room transforms into an interactive film set where the audience becomes co-authors of a temporary fiction, using images, props, film fragments, and a soundtrack as guides to create subtitles for this reality.

Simultaneously at Terranova, the artist presents an installation in the bookstore’s window for the launch of the publication Colección 5. Inspired by the work of Jean-Luc Godard, both the publication and the installation reflect reality and explore the artist’s personal connection with cinema and literature. Additionally, on September 13th, Colección 6 is presented at the Saint-Martin bookstore in Brussels. This event includes a site-specific installation by Menchen in the former studio of designer Martin Margiela, where the bookstore is located.

Colección is a series of publications showcasing a collection of images that the artist has been working on for years. In each volume, he invites colleagues familiar with the collection and his working process to reflect on or from the images, their forms, and the echoes between them. The text accompanying volume 5 of the collection is by curator, editor, and researcher Laura Vallès Vilchez, while volume 6 features a text by Belgian curator and artist Erich Weiss.
