No com un so
2022

«No com un so [Not Like a Sound] is the third poetry book by painter, activist, and poet Mari Chordà. In it, she maps the (re)birth of a self through the mourning of estrangement from a loving-sexual relationship (“the aftertaste / of that passage of your belly / in my mouth”)—a relationship still desired, yet now experienced from a maturity that eludes the deadly models of romantic love.
Reading this collection leads us through the ongoing recognition of the ties that entangle the lyrical self—not only with the woman she once loved and still loves, even though the cycle of that relationship has ended.
Not Like a Sound embodies Chordà’s vital and artistic imperative: one that binds—binds and leans—as / with / toward the small things, those seemingly insignificant and often overlooked, reinterpreting them, granting them a fullness of resistance against invisibility and absence.
Mari Chordà, among mud and mobs. And not so silent, for she leaves behind the trace of her writing. After all, no insect is truly silent… We must learn to understand, not only as sound, the beating of elytra and the waving of antennae.»
