de pliegues y subrayados Presentation

In this new title from the publishing house, the artist returns to her past readings to talk to us, with borrowed words, about her own concerns.

On the 11th of June, the editorial platform Tejido ajado presents its new publication at Chiquita Room, entitled de pliegues y subrayados [‘of folds and underlining’] and authored by Sara Agudo, the artist represented by the gallery. This book, as its title warns, is a collection of folds and underlines from the author’s personal library, a curated selection of voices of others with which she manages to articulate her own voice to speak to us about attention, desire, language, movement, trees and the world.

In Sara’s words: ‘I am attracted to the idea that the underlined sentences or folded pages are messages left to you from the past to remind you of something that was important, taking the form of a time jump, a bridge and an oracle. Re-reading what I have read has never interested me as much as it has until now because previously I was more interested in the desire to start a new book. However, there is also something random in this reencounter with the highlighted sentence because, among all the books that I suspect or remember that will be underlined, something makes me inclined to open some and not others or to select one sentence and not another. I wonder what I wanted to remind myself of by underlining those sentences’.

de pliegue y subrayados is exactly 20.31 centimetres high and 13.28 centimetres wide, which is the average size of the books it contains in its 112 pages, and has been laid out respecting the dimensions and layout of the text of the originals, using the spine as the reference axis.

Tejido ajado is an independent publishing house specialising in improbable writings – eccentric, difficult, radically committed to form or concept – which, due to their marginal character, are barely represented in the publishing market. Dispositional writings that invent their own logic in order to unfold and exist, on the page and in the world.

It was founded in 2023 by the artist Rafael Guijarro (Córdoba, 1991), with the support of INJUVE, and since then it has participated in different independent publishing fairs, such as Libros Mutantes, Recreo and ArtsLibris ARCOmadrid. His books are part of the Spencer Collection of the New York Public Library, and one of them has been selected for the next Prix Bob Calle du livre d’artiste, where it will compete for the international award.
