Maria Freire Montané

Granollers, 1995

Maria Freire Montané (Granollers, 1995) was trained in the Montseny Valley and graduated in Art and Design at the Escola Massana, a refuge and starting point for her explorations. In her practice, she investigates the concept of liminal space, the boundaries between the tangible and the invisible, and she reflects on the processes that connect us with our inner strength, through listening, in close relationship with nature. Her work is structured through a transversal methodology that integrates performance, painting and sculpture. Her career began with a graphic grant from Xavier Nogués, who encouraged her to develop in the field of painting. She has exhibited in spaces such as La Cera 13, curated by Begoña Egurbide and Marcel-lí Antúnez (together with Amara Nasira, Evru and Eulàlia Valldosera), in Espacio 88, in Cromo and in the Centre Cultural del Carme, in a group show organised by Teresa Lanceta. Her works have also formed part of educational projects promoted by the Diputació de Barcelona and Betevé. She has also taken part in talks and performances, such as ‘Valeri Charla’ at the Virreina Centre de la Imatge, and angels barcelona, invited by the group Estudio. She has performed in ‘Cabaré Internet’ in Pumarejo and with the group Malnescuts El Prat (Teatro El Artesano and La Caja), as well as in the short film Castells by Blanca Camello. Throughout her career, she has been awarded the Viladrich Painting Prize (2023) in Lleida.
