SUMMARY:Florilegium - Personal Anthologies
DESCRIPTION:In this performance\, Louis Porter creates a small collection of personalized artist books. Inspired by the concept of the florilegium (or “gathering of flowers”) —a medieval tradition in which fragments of material were combined to form literary anthologies— the artist brings to the gallery printed matter that has informed his exhibition The Appearance of a Distance\, such as copies and original items found and produced during his residency at Chiquita Room in 2022\, as well as during subsequent trips to Barcelona. \nFor half an hour each\, six people from the gallery sit with the artist at a desk covered with stacks of paper and a simple binding system. Maintaining a distance of 53 cm —an intimate distance in Spain— Louis Porter discusses the ideas encompassed by the exhibition as well as broader thoughts on his work with archival material. \nThe result of each conversation is the assembly of a book that contains at least one unique object\, which is then printed\, bound\, signed\, and given to each participant\, reflecting their personality. \nThe public is invited to attend and listen to the conversation\, seated about 75 cm away. \n  \nFree event with previous reservation. \nAccess from 16:00 to 17:30.
